SysGit launches agile hardware development platform to support acquisition of defense systems

LOS ANGELES, CA, January, 30, 2025SysGit, the agile hardware development company, today announced the launch of a software platform that will unlock digital acquisitions for defense systems. Built on a pioneering data architecture that allows engineers to treat hardware as code, the platform is already supporting modular and open systems approaches on major defense programs with major defense companies and SMBs alike.

“America’s technological superiority increasingly depends on our ability to accelerate the acquisition and development of vehicles and weapon systems,” said Steve Massey, Co-Founder and CEO of SysGit. “By treating hardware as code, we can enable parallel path iteration across the hundreds of companies that work on every defense program, and collapse the time to field new capabilities. SysGit allows teams to introduce agile hardware development by leveraging open formats, existing infrastructure investments, and Zero-Trust security architecture, liberating defense system data from vendor-locked tools.”

SysGit is used by engineering teams to create, refine, and review system models and requirements. SysGit uniquely treats hardware as software by storing system data as code, while presenting it through interfaces that are familiar to all technical users. This allows hardware engineering teams to:

Access parallel path development practices, such as revision control, branching and pull requests, improving speed, efficiency and quality.

Maintain compliance with open formats and existing infrastructure investments, enhancing interoperability between teams and organizations, while reducing the number of tools required to store and sync defense system data from four to one.

Easily deploy into highly secure environments. SysGit inherits the security posture of an organization’s underlying Git provider, optimizing the Zero Trust architecture that organizations have already expended resources to configure and maintain.

SysGit leverages tools and formats that have already been validated and widely deployed across the aerospace and defense industry. System data is maintained in SysML v2, the next-generation system modeling language. Developed over five years with the support of over 50 organizations across the defense industrial base, SysML v2 contains a unique textual notation feature that is presented and behaves as code, enabling automation and integration with software workflows. Data is stored in Git, the battle-tested version control system that is widely used in enterprise software development organizations, including those in the defense industrial base.

This launch marks a significant milestone in the company’s transition from Prewitt Ridge to SysGit, which occurred over the last year as the team built a new product to deliver the benefits that drove two decades of software development to hardware teams designing defense systems.

“Today’s launch is a testament to our team’s commitment to constant innovation in pursuit of durable solutions that revolutionize how America designs and fields defense systems, and brings together the vast talent from all sides of the defense industrial base. We’re just getting started,” Massey said.

Massey and Co-Founder Zeke Brechtel started the company to solve challenges they experienced as systems engineers at SpaceX and Slingshot Aerospace. After deeper engagement with the aerospace and defense ecosystem through SBIR awards from the US Air Force and the Space Force, the co-founders honed in on the pivotal challenges in areas that are critical to hardware development, including acquisitions and interface management. SysGit enables the many companies and suppliers that come together to serve America’s national interest to more rapidly field capabilities, while aligning with the digital transformation priorities of programs across the U.S. Department of Defense.

In a boon for program officers, project managers, and specialized engineers seeking to access agile hardware development, SysGit has achieved “Awardable” status through the DoD Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office’s (CDAO) Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace.

Over the coming weeks, SysGit’s Co-Founders will be attending the following events:

  • SysGit Launch Social, Lost & Found Bar DC, Feb. 5, Washington DC
  • National Security Space Association Defense and Intelligence Space Conference, Hyatt Regency, Reston, VA, February 10-12, 2025
  • Payload LA Space Industry Happy Hour, Lil' Simmzy's on the Deck, Feb. 13, El Segundo, CA
  • Object Modeling Group SysML v2 Summit, March 20th, Reston, VA
